Astro’s Playroom Reviews

We had trouble getting the 99VIN message to appear on a new save file but saw it immediately upon entering a completed one. The update released for all PlayStation 5 users without warning today, bringing a handful of new goodies, a new area, and even a few new missions to complete. It’s enough content to keep you busy for around an hour or so longer, but considering Astro’s Playroom came free for anyone who owns a PS5, it’s more than enough reason to celebrate. Maybe the most impressive piece of the PlayStation 5 hardware is its new controller, but it’ll only be as good as the games that support it. Transcending its role as an introduction to the PS5’s features, Astro’s Playroom is a quick and delightful celebration of PlayStation’s history.

This means you will need at least 5.800 coins, but in reality, it’s a little bit more because there are some blank prices in the machine. Collect around 6.000 – 6.500 coins and take all the prices in one go. All of that is, fundamentally, tied around the fun of using the DualSense controller.

Once you do, these bots will be added to your collection of bots when you play Astro Bot. So often that’s where magic in video games happens, and that’s most certainly the case here. On its own, this is a beautifully crafted, exquisitely paced and absolutely gorgeous 3D platformer.

Whether it’s the main menu with its signature Astro theme to celebrate the character, or CPU Plaza’s grandiose techno track and even Cooling Springs having a nice and cozy tune in its ice level. My favorite track overall, however, was the SSD Speedway, featuring sounds that match the game’s presentation perfectly. While the normal levels are fun and do not pose too much of a challenge, the suits are still a mixed bag, and therefore, only half of them are enjoyable to use, and stunted my current best time in the game.

Puzzle Piece 3/4 – To proceed you are supposed to use the throwable item across the gap towards the next checkpoint. Instead, throw it at both of the moving areas to the right to reveal this puzzle piece. Puzzle Piece 3/4 – After the next checkpoint where you have another large ramp to slide down, this puzzle piece is up to the left across two breakable platforms. Artifact 2/2 “PS Eye Toy Camera” – On the right side of the area, defeat the enemies and jump across the small platforms to the one with the two coins and the wire pull on it, which contains this artifact. Puzzle Piece 3/4 – From the start on the right side of the area, jump to the wooden platform and pull out the three wires to spawn this puzzle piece.

Backtrack to previous levels to gather any missed collectibles‚ ensuring you don’t miss out on hidden trophies. Focus on rescuing Special Bots‚ as they unlock additional challenges and trophies. Use a checklist to track your progress and revisit levels to complete specific tasks. Since no trophies are missable‚ take your time to explore thoroughly and enjoy the game’s creative levels and DualSense features. Unlocking the Platinum Trophy in Astro Playroom is an achievable and enjoyable journey‚ taking approximately 5-7 hours.

The platinum trophy‚ the ultimate reward‚ is unlocked by earning all other trophies and completing the game. This system ensures a smooth progression for players aiming to fully complete the game. Rescuing special bots in Astro Playroom requires solving riddles or performing specific actions in each world. For example‚ punching a bush in the GPU Jungle reveals the Selen bot from Returnal. These hidden characters are tied to PlayStation history and unlock unique trophies.

Nearby the Horizon easter egg is an island with a bot making a blocky T. This references 2020’s Dreams on PS4, developed by Media Molecule. The game is about making assets and even entire games from scratch. On the right-hand side at the start of GPU Jungle is a lower platform of a Bot dancing in an orange head with blue jorts.
