Natural environments come together with PS5 internal parts and other pieces of hardware in a beautiful blend of the environmental with the technological. A grassy plain looks beautiful in 4K, only for the plants to be topped with PlayStation face button symbols rather than flowers.

Yes, the game is a great showpiece for the PS5’s DualSense controller, applying its haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and motion-sensing technology to a variety of inventive situations. But Astro’s Playroom is much more than a tutorial; it’s a joyful and polished platformer that ushers in a new generation of PlayStation hardware with a big smile. It’s not bloatware that permanently takes up precious space on the PS5’s relatively small SSD. It strikes that fine balance between serving its purpose as a pre-installed pack-in for new PS5 owners to cut their teeth on, and actually being genuinely fun and entertaining. vt888 of Cooling Springs is an absolute treasure in its DualSense use, though the levels are not necessarily my favorites. My favorite of them is GPU Jungle’s full robotic monkey suit, which leads to vertically-scrolling, 2D-view levels.

Some franchises and games, such as Gran Turismo, are relegated to references in trophy descriptions, which have not been listed below. Unfortunately, there are no plans for Astro’s Playroom DLC, so there may not be a chance to go Easter egg hunting again. Suits like these are creative enough not to make the motion control feel like too much of a gimmick and eventually make you hate it. Having bows as weapons isn’t mind-blowing; it’s a staple in many games.

Honestly, the biggest complaint I have with Astro’s Playroom is just that it’s too damn short. I finished all 16 of the main levels, the final area, and completed each of the speed run trials in around three hours. That’s not very much content — but I still have well over half of the game’s collectibles left to discover, which could easily double the amount of time spent if I wanted to go for the platinum. I used this example last time and I like to explain that with how precise the haptics are here I can actually tell the difference between when Astro walks on wood, metal, glass, and so on.

There isn’t a specific way to get these items only, you just have to keep rolling until you get them. If you want an idea of what each Gatcha ball gives, puzzle pieces are obvious, silver balls are the Gatcha Prizes, and the gold balls are the Artifacts. If you need more coins you can go replay levels you’ve already completed, grabbing the Puzzle Pieces and Artifacts again because those give a large number of coins when you obtained them again. The remaining three puzzle pieces are all up the platforming path created when you pull the wire that’s up the ramp between the Memory Meadow and Cooling Springs entrances.
